David is a registered US patent attorney with a wealth of expertise.
David has more than 15 years of experience in the preparation, prosecution, licensing, assertion and strategic management of patents both in the United States and internationally.
He has provided advice to clients regarding patentability of inventions including prior art searching, formal opinions on validity and infringement of patents, preparation of motions, selection of experts and assistance with expert reports for the purposes of patent litigation, negotiated and drafted patent and software licenses, and in his capacity as patent counsel, advised senior management on a wide range of intellectual property issues, including patent protection and filing strategies and commercialization of patented technologies.
David has worked with a variety of clients from multi-nationals to start-ups in obtaining patents for a wide range of technologies including semiconductors, electronic packaging, computer systems, data storage, optics, software and telecommunications.
Experience
David’s extensive experience includes in-house positions with Maxtor Corporation as its chief patent counsel and AT&T Corporation as well as private practice with Skjerven, Morrill, MacPherson, Franklin & Friel, a leading US patent law firm.
Some of the clients he has represented include Advanced Micro Devices, AT&T, General Electric, Maxtor, Mosel Vitelic, Quicklogic, Samsung and Sun Microsystems.
Professional background
David obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1981, a Master of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1984, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988.
David is admitted to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office and also as an attorney before the State Bars of Texas and Colorado. He is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, is a court-appointed volunteer mediator and a named inventor on 5 issued patents.
