- Represented and advised publishers and authors of copyright material, including books, music and artwork.
- Represented and advised art consultant in negotiation of artist contracts.
- Represented Philips Electronics in 2 patent infringement cases.
- Represented Levi Strauss in a trade mark infringement case.
- Conducting anti-counterfeiting operations for software and fashion companies in Singapore.
- Represented copyright collection agencies, including copyright infringement actions and claims for licence fees.
- Advising media companies and advertising agencies on a wide range of legal issues, including issues relating to copyright law, entertainment law and character merchandising.
- Negotiating, drafting and reviewing various forms of intellectual property agreements including trade mark licence agreements, franchise agreements, distributorship agreements, intellectual property proprietorship agreements and nondisclosure agreements.
- Involved in patent, copyright, passing off and design infringement actions in which issues relating to the subsistence of copyright, infringement and validity were raised.
- Negotiating, drafting and reviewing various forms of information technology agreements including software licence agreements, maintenance and support agreements, teaming agreements, prime and subcontractor agreements, content licensing agreements and web-hosting agreements.
- Preparation, filing and prosecution of trade mark, patent and design applications, and trade mark opposition proceedings.
Professional background
Karol graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Laws degree. She was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1998. Karol is a member of the Intellectual Property and Information Technology Committees of the Law Society of Singapore.
